EE Times: Are Linux and EDA right for each other?

incredible groundswell of support for this operating system. Yet,
in every case the obvious requirement for EDA vendors to truly
embrace Linux has been ignored: The hardware vendors don’t
officially support it.”

“The lack of a tightly integrated support system is one of the
issues with the new world of “horizontal” integration found on the
PC.”

“Until the major PC-based workstation suppliers are willing to
support a single, standard version of Linux, it does not make sense
for an EDA vendor to embrace the OS.”
