EuropeMedia: iCommune ‘The Sequel’ Released on Open-Source Site

“James Speth, the Mac software developer who incurred the wrath
of Apple after turning the company’s iTunes
jukebox into a file-sharing system, has released a new version of
his iCommune application that no longer uses any of
Apple’s original code.

“iTunes is a jukebox program developed by Apple that allows
users to create personal MP3 libraries on their computer and to
download these to portable MP3 players. According to News.com,
Speth originally created iCommune in order to allow his iTunes
library to talk to a Linux-based machine that was connected to his
stereo. The program also had the effect of allowing iTunes users to
open up their personal music libraries to others that they had
allowed to access their playlists…”
