“So Corel has entered into the distribution game. What were
your ideas of how it would be? Mine differed greatly from what I
came across. I had known that they were going to base it on Debian,
but had no idea they would add so much of their own! Let’s
continue on, and I’ll give you my thoughts of the install, and the
system that they hope to ‘cash in’ with for the client-side Linux
users (according to crn news at least)….”
“I slipped the newly burned cdrom into the drive as it booted
up, and sure enough, next thing i see is the Corel splash screen
(and quite fancy at that). Now one thing I was thinking is that
with this being a laptop.. the fancy GUI install wouldn’t work so
good. The best resolution I can get is 800×600 at 16bpp. It looked
like it really wanted something like 1024×768 since most of the
‘windows’ were in the lower right hand corner, but they stayed on
screen throughout the whole install….”
“Corel has brought something great into the Linux world. If you
are still trying to grab this ISO image, keep trying. It’s
something that you need to experience right about now. Keep
thinking “Corel.. new company as far as Linux distributions…
first try… wow” to yourself. While I now have mandrake 6.1 back
on my laptop, Corel looks like a very promising distribution. I
can’t wait to see the next version, let alone ‘Office 2000’ that
they are beta testing soon (or now maybe).”
