“IBM will announce on Friday that it is investing $200m in the
Linux operating system for computer servers, in an effort to speed
the uptake of the free technology.”
“The money will be used to set up developers’ centres across
Europe, in which software vendors will be able to create software
for Linux, a rival to Microsoft’s Windows that is free to
use.“
“At the development centres, in the UK, France, Germany, Poland
and Hungary, IBM will provide software, hardware and expert staff
to help small companies work on their Linux products. Intel, the
maker of computer chips, is also supporting the project,
contributing equipment and expertise.”
