“Could VA Linux Systems Inc. become the Dell Computer of the
open-source industry?”
“There is a striking resemblance between the company-which
changed its name from VA Research late last month-and Dell. Like
the PC and server giant, VA was founded in a college dormitory. And
VA has a similar strategy of selling built-to-order PCs and
servers. But VA’s machines are designed specifically to run the
Linux operating system.”
“VA is on a roll. Revenues were up 300 percent in the last
quarter. The company has grown from 17 employees in December to
more than 100. VA is even planning an initial public offering later
this year.”
