Linux.com: Getting Started with Apache

“Apache is the web server software currently used by more than
50% of web sites worldwide. This will help you install and
configure your own Apache web server.”

“The Apache software and source code can be downloaded free of
charge from the website, http://www.apache.org/. It also comes
standard with most Linux distributions; there’s probably a copy of
the package you need to install it on the CD or website you got
your copy of Linux from. The files that need to be installed are
/usr/sbin/httpd, as well as access.conf, httpd.conf, and srm.conf,
all of which should probably be in /etc/httpd/conf. In addition,
startup and shutdown scripts will probably be put into /etc/init.d
for Debian and /etc/rc.d/init.d for Red Hat.”
