Linux.com: The Andrew Leonard interview

Andrew Leonard is the senior technology correspondent at
Salon.com, and has written for publications including Newsweek, New
York Times Book Review, and Wired. He is working on the Free
Software Project, a book about free software.

“When did you first start using Linux?”

“Andrew Leonard: I started playing with Linux in the spring of
1998, when I downloaded the Debian distribution onto floppies and
installed it on an old 386 Toshiba laptop. It was probably the most
difficult way for a newbie to introduce himself to Linux, but I did
get the kernel loaded, and got that “happy hacking” Debian
welcome.”

“I have to be honest, however, and note that I still use
Microsoft Word for my word processing, though I’ve promised Richard
Stallman that the chapter of my book that focuses on him will be
written using only completely free software!”
