Linux Journal: Embed a Red Hat

“For a bright, shining period of time, all was balanced and
aligned in the Linux world. SuSE was in Europe, Pacific HiTech was
TurboLinux in Asia, Red Hat was sitting pretty in the States,
Debian running quietly on the boxes of geeks everywhere, and
Caldera–all by itself–bringing Linux closer to the enterprise.
“Tastes great on servers!” was the cry. “Just wait ’til you try
some on your desktop!”

“But in a matter of months, the above Big Five have been joined
by several new congregations of Linux faithful–from Phat to
Mandrake to Corel, as well as many others, both here and abroad.
And while Linux is still a server’s operating system, and a
viable alternative to Windows on the desktop (at least for a
determined user), the hottest recipe for a Linux feast now includes
a heavy dose of embedded systems.

“So, is it any wonder that Red Hat has finally joined the
club?”
