[ Thanks to Jason
Pincin for this report. ]
Content and navigation preparation for go-live has been the
focus of this week. With a target usability date of Feb.1, we’ve
been pouring tremendous amounts of time into these key areas.
Everyone will be able to see the fruits of these labors in the
coming week. We look forward to everyone helping get this site off
the ground!
There’s a tremendous amount to touch on but here are the
briefs:
– All the developers have been really pitching in on site
navigation pages and forms that will allow the community as a whole
to grow this site. Aaron, Daniel, Jason and others have been working
night and day to make this happen. Dan has committed functioning
versions of the Article creation scripts and supporting code.
Micah has made considerable
progress on the user maintenance systems… enough to say it’ll be
ready for the 1st. Jason has broken away from core components and
have begun developing pages to support those components as well,
the first of which are pages to support some levels of category
maintenance.
– Lots of talk about where we’re headed, with some guidelines
established that are being put in place for our coming moderation
and voting systems. A lot of talk amongst Dan, Aaron, and Jason has
actually led to conclusions :).
– Aaron has been working on some cool content management
application, in conjunction with Dan and Jason making forms
‘Aaron-App-Aware’. Looks very good so far. Will give the ability to
manage content from anywhere at the file system level with DB
syncronization.
– Bug Squashing. I stomped out a lot more bugs and added some minor
supporting security functions to our function & object library.
Aaron has produced revisions of several scripts including the
developer tarball. Excellent news for any new developer. Aaron also
corrected some site-indexing bugs.
– Aaron invested a lot of time bringing our production systems up
to speed on new kernel versions, the latest known-good patches,
etc.
– Wade and Aaron have
been our voice in continuing efforts on the ODE (Open Document Enviroment)
discussion list and with RMS.
As you can see, there’s a LOT going on. We’re all very excited to
bring this on-line next week, so keep your eyes peeled. We hope
everyone finds it as useful as we intend to make it. Next week will
just be the beginning of what we have planned. We encourage
everyone to join our discussion lists and join in on creating as
many ideas as possible. You can find all the info you need to do so
on our website, http://www.linuxkb.org. Look forward
to seeing you at the NY
Linux World Expo (Look for the SEUL Banner)!
