“Steelbridge is pleased to announce that we’re rolling in the
dough, at least by our standards. … The funding, Brown said,
comes from Canadian venture capitalist firm Mosaic Venture
Partners. “We’re getting paid to turn large and original ideas into
real and revolutionary products,” Brown beamed. Now that they’ve
received some capital, the company intends to permanently change
its name to OpenCOLA.”

“One small step for the corporate world just might be one giant
leap for Open Sourcekind. “We work with Open Source, and everything
related to it,” Brown said. Steelbridge and its employees, Brown
explained, embrace Open Source because it “is a return to the first
principles of computer science–innovation, transparency, and peer
review. And there is one other small thing. The code–there’s
crying in Redmond–is free.”

“Beyond the soft drink, openCOLA is up to some serious business.
“Our product is called openCOLA; it’s a distributed search
application. If you’ve heard of SETI@Home or Gnutella, then you’ve
got a handle on distributed computing. And if you’ve ever sweated
over how to find relevant and timely information on an ever
expanding Web, then you’re gonna love our distributed search
application,”
said OpenCOLA CIO Cory Doctorow. The company is
aiming to make its code available after Labor Day.”
