“If the attendance of last week’s European Linux Conference
in London is any indicator, European countries seem ready to adopt
Linux at a quicker pace than businesses and investors here in the
U.S. The vendor-neutral conference featured talks and comments
by a number of Linux notables.”
“SuSE and IBM jointly hosted the conference, which presented the
Open Source operating system (OS) as a viable desktop alternative
in the corporate world and a continuing powerhouse in the corporate
server market, according to a SuSE corporate statement.”
“Since the conference was specifically designed to be
vendor-neutral, the statistics presented to illustrate Linux’s
adoption by businesses and investment viability were likewise
generic. Adam Wood of Deutsche Bank stated that investors are
comfortable with the Linux model. Wood went on to comment that in
Europe, the Open Source movement has a proven track record, and
that a comfort level with Linux in mission-critical environments
has been achieved.”
