“Timing is everything. The Industrial Solutions Group,
assembled by Lineo to focus on real-time operations, has announced
the release of a common application program interface (API) for two
widely-used versions of real-time Linux.
This common API gives
real-time Linux developers the ability to use the same API, whether
developing RealTime Linux (RTLinux) or the real-time application
interface (RTAI), the two most common distributions of real-time
Linux.”

“The RTAI team released version 1.3 in April under the Free
Software Foundation’s General Public License (GPL), making it
easier for developers to write and debug real-time applications.
The RTAI team is currently led by system architect and project
leader Paolo Mantegazza of the Department of Aerospace Engineering
of Milan, Italy (DIAPM).”

“A number of the members of the team were developers at
Zentropix, a real-time development company recently acquired by
Lineo. Zentropix was also a sponsor of realtimelinux.org.”
