“A new online grant program intends to allow Linux developers to
Master the possibilities. LinuxFund.org has launched a site and a
program that allows hobbyist developers of Linux to dip into the
funds collected from the use of special Tux MasterCard purchases.
These special Linux MasterCards are currently available in the U.S.
and Canada.”
“Two types of members will have access to the site: grant
applicants and registered users, according to Peretz Partensky, who
currently holds the rank of Architect Penguin for the site. Grant
applicants will present the projects they want funded in an
arranged format. Registered users will then be able to provide
feedback and influence the amount of grant money given to the
projects being developed on the site. Allocated funds will be
decided on by a three-panel system and dispersed at the end of each
month-long funding cycle.”
“Even if you’re not applying for a grant, you can still
participate in the ranking of projects, posting feedback to
projects, and influencing which projects will get funding at the
end of the month,” Partensky said. “So it’s not only for the
people who come and are applying for grants, but it’s also
community-oriented where everybody can come, get comments and
feedback, and then rank and have their say [on other
projects].”
