Linus Torvalds has been insisting for some time now that a
prominent part of Linux’s future lies in embedded systems, a rather
unglamorous part of the computer world.

“That future appears to be now, as multiple vendors announce
products that extend Linux squarely into the suddenly-hot world of
embedded systems. Already we’re seeing a race to market, pitting
companies with existing products vs. firms with experience in the
embedded field that have announced upcoming Linux products.”

“But — and here’s the interesting twist — many of the players
in the embedded-systems field say that the market is big enough for
everyone.”
