LinuxPower: An interview with Wichert Akkerman, Debian GNU/Linux project leader

“It does worry me a bit that a lot of people who see Linux the
first time immediately seem to think that Linux == Red Hat…” —
Wichert Akkerman

“Barath: How long have you been involved with Debian
development? Free software development in general?”

“Actually development was my first contact with Debian,
somewhere beginning 1995. I had a patch to make strace work with
the then new ELF-format. When I sent that to the maintainer of the
strace package he responded by asking me if I wanted to take over
the strace package from him. That was also my first contact with
free software development in general, before that I mostly was
playing with turbo pascal in DOS.”
