LinuxPR: Rebel.com to Adopt Transmeta’s Crusoe Processor In Future NetWinder Products

“Rebel.com Inc., a leading supplier of business networking
technologies, announced its intention to adopt Transmeta’s Crusoe
processor family in a future line of residential and small business
gateways that will add to its NetWinder OfficeServer line of
products.”

“What we are announcing today is that we intend to utilize
Transmeta’s Crusoe processor family for a family of residential and
small business gateway products,”
said Michael Mansfield,
president of Rebel.com. “Rebel.com selected Crusoe based on a
number of factors, including its ability to work in a small fanless
enclosure, its low power consumption, its high performance and its
compatibility with industry standards. These are very important
strengths of Transmeta’s Crusoe processor family which
differentiated it from other processor architectures we
evaluated.”

“At our booth at PC Expo, we will be demonstrating a seamless
wireless mobile internet computing environment consisting of web
slates and ultra-light laptop computers connected through a
residential gateway back to an ISP,” said Steve Goldstein, VP of
Business Development at Transmeta. “We foresee this multi-platform
architecture moving into homes and small businesses starting later
this year. Rebel.com is developing a family of Crusoe-based
gateways that fully support this environment, and we have worked
closely with them during their development. Rebel.com will be
joining us in our booth # 3454 at PC Expo in New York, June 27 –
29, 2000, showing a prototype of their upcoming Crusoe-based
gateway.”
