“Quite a few sites display a powered by Zope logo, which can
lead you to ask: what exactly is Zope anyway? Zope is a Web
application server, but that phrase means a lot of different things
to different people. Most Web application servers support Java
servlets. Some support Enterprise Java Beans, or EJBs. Zope does
neither. Instead, Zope is an application server for applications
written in the Python scripting language.“
“Zope, short for Z Object Publishing Environment, is radically
different from Java-based application servers, most notably by the
replacement of Java for Python, a popular scripting language.”
“Like Java, Python is an object-oriented language, but unlike
Java, Python is considered a scripting language rather than a
traditional programming language. In this day and age such
distinctions tend to blur. One clear distinction does remain,
though: Python is clearly not as mainstream a programming language
as Java.”
