LinuxWorld: Intel: Linux inside?

Robert Berger, who was hired as a consultant to Intel as it was
developing its Linux strategy, says Intel is indeed sincere in its
desire to embrace Linux.

“Rumor and innuendo has surrounded Intel’s recent forays into
the Linux community. In September, the chip maker announced it was
making a token investment in Red Hat; this news was preceded by an
Intel-sponsored invitation to the Linux community to join Project
UDI — a multi-vendor attempt to create a uniform driver interface
(UDI) for Unix.”

“… The Register‘s John Lettice recently pointed out
supposed incompatibilities between Intel’s business model and the
ethos of open source development.”

“I don’t believe this to be the case. In my opinion, Intel is
strongly motivated to create a win-win situation, for itself and
for the Linux community at large….”
