“Trustix, a Norwegian vendor of security tools for Linux, has
released a new package for remote management of Linux servers. It
is one of the first native GUI applications for system management
available for Linux that goes beyond single system control, which
makes it useful for ISPs and sites with large numbers of Linux
servers.”
“The new tool, called XPloy, goes far beyond Linuxconf and other
similar tools. It provides a GUI environment for mapping your
servers and networks into secure zones, monitoring individual
applications and processes, monitoring availability and performance
of servers, controlling a sitewide user account and group system,
distributing software across the managed servers, and monitoring
alarms and executing applications on defined events. The software
is installed on each server as an agent with a console application
running from one of the servers or a workstation.”
“With the new product, Trustix is also exploring a new
method of releasing software packages by offering a license
subscription model that includes all upgrades, modules, and open
source Linux applications designed to work with the package.
Those can be downloaded from Trustix’s Website and installed
automatically once configured with their Trustix eXtended Package
Installer (TXPI) technology.”
