Microsoft Watch: Microsofties Don Their LinuxWorld Expo Flack Jackets

“But more and more, the company believes that the Windows vs.
open-source battle has moved beyond technology and into the realm
of ‘business value,’ says Peter Houston, senior director of the
Windows Server product management group.

“Houston should know, as he has been charged for the past year
with overseeing Microsoft’s competitive analysis and strategy
vis-a-vis Sun, IBM, Novell and the open-source vendors.

“Like Microsoft did at the August LinuxWorld show, Houston says,
the company will highlight four Microsoft technologies that it
believes developers will find of interest. These are: Microsoft’s
shared-source software-licensing plan; Services for Unix (SFU)
Windows utilities; Embedded XP software (for the
retail/point-of-sale crowd); and Web Matrix, Redmond’s hobbyist
programming tool…”
