NE Asia Online: Microsoft Sets Up Office to Promote Open Source Campaign for Windows OS

“Microsoft Co, Ltd said it opened on April 10 an office [in
Tokyo] to promote Shared Source Initiative.

“Under the campaign, the new office is expected to offer source
codes to companies, research/academic institutions, central/local
governments, on condition that they should sign a contract with
Microsoft on a license to use its software sources before obtaining
them.

The move came in order to confront open source software, which
is about to flourish in areas such as servers, OSes for digital
home appliances, and office suites, etc…”
