“Do you desire more speed from your Linux system? We all do,
so in this article we will cover ways of speeding up
Linux.”

“There’s a couple of utilities available that allow you to
increase system performance in Linux. One utility, Powertweak,
allows you to adjust various motherboard features and device
settings to increase performance. It features a GUI interface for
configuration and is pretty easy to use. How it works is you first
configure the utility with the GUI configuration tool. This will
make a configuration file thats used at startup by the optimization
program.”

“Another utility called IRQTune allows you to adjust IRQ
priorities. This will allow you to optimize certain aspects of your
Linux system. For example serial speed or modem speed can be
increased with this utility.”

“The swap partition performance can be increased by placing it
in the beginning of your drive. Partitions placed at the beginning
will be up to 3mb/s faster than partition placed in the 5th spot
(Common place for the swap partitions). For example, I have found
that my /dev/hda1 drive transfers at 16mb/s and my /dev/hda5
transfers at 13 mb/s.”
