source used more frequently in state, local and federal government
agencies. So much so, in fact, that two states are currently
considering passing bills that would force public administrators to
evaluate open-source options before buying or deploying new
software.“Texas (S.B. 1579) and Oregon (H.B. 2892) have bills in the
works that also would require administrators to provide
justification for purchasing proprietary software when open-source
alternatives exist. The question is, should we be legislating open
source…?”
