osOpinion: The Next Step for Linux Advocacy

[ Thanks to Kelly

“After having seen too many examples of Linux advocacy gone
wrong, I’d like to share the skills that I’ve managed to acquire
over the years while advocating my preferred platform.”

“A major problem for Linux advocacy is showing that attributes
are within a GNU/Linux configuration as opposed to the setup that
the advocating party currently has. Such commonly used little terms
as ‘but it’s free!?’ don’t carry much weight when you realize that
the software they have now is ‘free’ (as in beer) because it’s been
paid for already.”

“Free as in speech is useful only to (or at least primarily so)
to those individuals that alter the OS code. The average home user
not only doesn’t read, but doesn’t even care what the EULA for his
software says — as these people couldn’t care less that the source
code for Microsoft Windows is proprietary.”
