Ottawa Citizen: Corel has window of opportunity to capitalize on Microsoft’s woes

“As the software maker for a technology that rivals Microsoft’s
operating system, Corel Corp. looks like a surefire Canadian
high-tech contender to benefit from the U.S. computer behemoth’s
legal woes….”

Most analysts agree that Corel and others that make
applications for Linux — the Internet-based operating system
regarded as a prime competitor for Microsoft’s Windows — could
reap significant rewards while Microsoft digs itself out of a legal
quagmire.

“But Corel has taken a surprisingly subdued stance following
Monday’s U.S. court ruling that found Microsoft guilty of antitrust
practices, a decision that could lead to drastic punishment,
including a breakup.”
