Pacific Hi-Tech Rolls Out Industry’s First General Purpose Linux Server Solution

TurboLinux ServerTM Targets Growing Corporate Server
Market

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. May 3, 1999 Pacific HiTech, the leader in
high-performance Linux, today announced it was the first major
Linux company to ship a general purpose Linux server package,
TurboLinux Server, optimized for corporate server applications.
Scheduled for general shipment in North America in June, TurboLinux
Server is now available in Japan. Pacific HiTech has already
shipped more than 30,000 copies of TurboLinux Server in that region
through systems integration, retail, and magazine bundle
distribution channels.

“TurboLinux Server was designed from the ground up to offer a
Linux server solution to the corporate market that was stable,
secure and tuned to provide top performance,” said Cliff Miller,
CEO of Pacific HiTech. “Analysts and hardware vendors all identify
the server market as the sweet spot for Linux and that is where we
will focus our technology development.”

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), there are
more than 10 million Linux users worldwide. In 1998, the Linux
market grew by 212 percent and nearly 18 percent of all server
hardware licenses sold last year were Linux, according to IDC.
Today’s announcement reinforces Pacific HiTech’s commitment to be
the technology and market leader worldwide for Linux solutions for
the corporate server market.

TurboLinux Server makes it easy to install and administer a
Linux server for a company’s web site, e-mail, file and print
serving and FTP needs. The installer also performs automatic
partitioning and offers different Linux kernel types including SMP
(more than one processor) and APM (advanced power management)
functionality. It also offers virus and security protection.

Bundled with TurboLinux Server is commercial backup software as
well as drivers to support the most popular server RAID and UPS
solutions.
