PC Week: Penguin’s 8-way Linux server flies

“Penguin Computing last week beat hardware Goliaths such as Dell
Computer Corp. and Compaq Computer Corp. to market with the first
server to use more than four Intel Corp. Xeon chips.”

“In PC Week Labs’ exclusive benchmark tests of the San Francisco
startup’s eight-way Linux 8000 running Red Hat Linux 6.0, the
server proved ready for enterprise-class applications such as the
Oracle8i for Linux database.”

“More applications must be written for Linux for it to be seen
