PC Week: SAP bets on Linux for ERP

“Can the Linux operating system really run an ERP system? The
enterprise resource planning market leader thinks so, but ERP tool
users and other observers are not so sure.”

“SAP AG will release a version of its R/3 application for the
freeware operating system in the third quarter, company officials
said this month. SAP is the first major ERP vendor to support
Linux.”

“ERP user Mike May, vice president of IT at Teknion Furniture
Systems Ltd., in Toronto, said reliability is a concern for the new
operating system. “I would have to test the heck out of it,” May
said. “Our systems are mission-critical. Reliability is the main
issue.””
