“OpenAvenue, the leading Open-Source Service Provider (OSP) and
multi-platform collaborative development hosting site, announced
today its support for Sun Microsystems’ Forte for Java Portal.
Developers will be able to use the Forte for Java development
environment within OpenAvenue’s OAsis (OpenAvenue Source
Infrastructure System), an integrated tool set for Web-based
collaborative development. This integration will provide key
add-on capability for users of Forte for Java who desire to work
effectively via the Web on collaborative development projects, and
provide a large community of open source developers easy access to
the technology for use on projects hosted on OAsis at
OpenAvenue.com. OpenAvenue will also redistribute the binary code
for Forte for Java Community Edition, to registered users from
OpenAvenue’s Web site.”
“In addition, OpenAvenue’s CodeCatalog, a unique search engine
for indexing and browsing open source code, has been integrated
with the Forte for Java IDE, allowing users to access the tool’s
intelligent indexing capability as a menu item from within the
IDE.”
“Collaborative development teams will be able to use this
powerful search engine technology to index their own components
built using Forte for Java, in order to facilitate code reuse and
sharing,” said Bill Guilmart, OpenAvenue’s executive vice
president, Global Collaboration. “The add-in code implementing this
integration has, itself, been open sourced for the benefit of the
community, and is hosted as a project at OpenAvenue.com.” The
NetBeans(TM) source code (on which the Forte for Java product is
based) will also be indexed within CodeCatalog, and be
cross-referenced against other popular open source projects.
OpenAvenue’s participation in this framework extension program
showcases the open source foundation of the Forte for Java
Portal.”
