Raleigh News & Observer: Microsoft finds Linux a threat

Microsoft considers Linux-based operating systems, like those
made by Red Hat Software, to be a “significant” revenue threat to
its main operating system for corporate networks because Linux is
more reliable and less expensive, according to an internal
Microsoft memo.

“We think of it as terrific news,” said Robert Young, chief
executive officer of Red Hat.

“Linux is a discount product that will destroy the value of
other [Microsoft] products,” said Dan Kusnetzky, an analyst at
International Data Corp.
