Red Hat Linux 7

Red Hat, Inc. Bug Fix Advisory

Synopsis: New emacs packages are available for Red Hat Linux 7
Advisory ID: RHBA-2000:091-04
Issue date: 2000-10-19
Updated on: 2000-10-20
Product: Red Hat Linux
Keywords: emacs emacs-nox python
Cross references: N/A

1. Topic:

The emacs-nox package included in Red Hat Linux 7 needed the
locale.alias file from XFree86. Also, the initialization of python
mode has been fixed.

2000-10-19: Instructions for dealing with changed site-start.el
files added

2. Relevant releases/architectures:

Red Hat Linux 7.0 – i386

3. Problem description:

The emacs-nox program tried to open
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/locale.alias, which would fail if XFree86
wasn’t installed. Also, python mode wasn’t properly initalized in
the site-start.el file.

4. Solution:

For each RPM for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filename]

where filename is the name of the RPM.

If the previous /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-start.el had
been changed, you will end up with a
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-start.el.rpmnew. To apply the fix,
do

cp /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-start.el.rpmnew
/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-start.el

(all on the same line)

5. Bug IDs fixed (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla
for more info):

18548 – national (accented) characters are not displayed
18642 – emacs-nox requires XFree86 !
