Lindon, Utah, you might think that it’s SCO Group, the company
currently suing IBM Corp. over Big Blue’s alleged donation of Unix
code to the Linux community. But you’d be wrong…“What’s been missing from the discussion is the fact that, while
SCO may be the current owner of the System V code, SCO does not own

Open Group, a San Francisco-based nonprofit standards organization.
This ownership gives the Open Group the power to decide which
products can be labeled ‘Unix’ (and not all of these, incidentally,

the trademark and, while most of its watchdog efforts are friendly,
the organization is currently involved in a legal dispute with
Apple Computer Inc., over Apple’s use of the Unix trademark in
connection with its OS X product. Allen Brown, president and CEO of
the Open Group, and Graham Bird, the group’s vice president of
marketing, spoke Monday with SearchEnterpriseLinux.com about their
organization’s role in the Unix world…”
