[ Thanks to Kurt Seifried for this
announcement. ]
The growth in use of Linux has been phenomenal over the last few
years. The number of software companies producing Linux
distributions and software has also exploded, and with that has
come the inevitable security concerns. There sheer amount of Linux
software available makes it certain that security problems, ranging
from trivial to extremely dangerous will be found. Unfortunately
keeping up with all of this is a full time job in itself.
SecurityPortal has led the way, with a weekly Linux digest
summarizing activity for major vendors and software packages,
allowing professionals to spend minutes instead of hours tracking
Linux security. This service however has one problem, because of
the publishing schedule (weekly) users are exposed unless they use
another source of information that is more prompt.
SecurityPortal has now solved this problem with the creation of
the “Linux Security List”, a moderated list covering Linux
security. Instead of signing up to multiple vendor advisories in
the hopes of catching problems as they become public, you need only
be on one single list. This list is moderated by an expert
team of Linux security professionals, including Kurt Seifried
(author of the Linux Security Knowledge Base) and Matt Gischer
(long time Linux security analyst). Because of the tight focus of
the list security professionals (and any Linux user) do not need to
wade through piles of unrelated security information, significantly
reducing the amount of wasted time spent trying to track these
problems.
