“Joining the recording industry in its escalating war against
Internet copyright infringement, the Motion Picture Association of
America filed a copyright infringement suit yesterday against
Scour, a Web exchange where people trade downloads of full-length
movies.”
“This lawsuit is about stealing,” said Jack Valenti, head of the
association, which represents major movie studios including Sony
and Universal. “There’s a feeling spread among young people that
it’s OK to take something that belongs to others, just because
technology makes it possible. (But) you don’t raise your children
to steal.”
“The case against Scour is nearly identical to the case
against Napster now in federal court, said Brian Mudge, an
intellectual- property-rights lawyer with New York’s Kenyon and
Kenyon. He predicted that the industry groups will win both
cases.”
