Signal Ground: Review of Enterasys Networks RoamAbout (Wireless Network)

“Enterasys Networks is a new subsidiary of Cabletron Systems, so
you shouldn’t be surprised if the Cabletron name appears all over
some of the gear. Newer labels have been spotted on some of the
most recently produced hardware.”

“It is also important to note that Enterasys Networks was eager
to work with us for a Linux-based product review. In talking with
their employees, it was apparent that they are very proud of their
Linux support. Nevertheless, the product data sheets found on their
front-most web pages don’t mention Linux. We at Signal Ground are
hoping this changes soon.”

Enterasys Networks provides a source code version of their
driver (completely open except for one library, to which even the
company didn’t have the source when the driver was first written).
This is much more than can be said for most any other hardware
vendor’s Linux drivers — if such drivers are even provided. The
source that was provided allowed me to answer all of my own
questions about the driver, and it allowed me to compile and run
their driver under Slackware.
In our opinion, the code
provided by the vendor should be sufficient for most purposes.”
