SRO: Caldera Heads For Higher Ground

“Caldera Systems today is expected to unveil a channel program
for its newly launched e-commerce software suite, which company
officials say presents a high-margin opportunity in the open-source

“Caldera’s Alliance Partner program represents the top tier of
the company’s channel initiative. Solutions providers that join the
program will be able to sell Caldera’s eBuilder, an e-commerce
bundle that includes Caldera’s eServer version of OpenLinux,
Evergreen Internet Inc.’s ECential Java-based e-commerce
components, and IBM’s WebSphere application server….”

Jeff Hunsaker, VP of sales at Caldera, says solutions
providers considering open source have wondered, “How do I make
money here?
” But with eBuilder, Hunsaker says, providers can
charge for consulting and implementation services, which in some
cases could be worth three times the software fees.”
