“Corporations are getting serious about Linux deployment. That’s
the word, according to the preliminary results of a survey
conducted by the Merit Project, an independent consortium of
vendors, IT clients, and resellers.”

“The survey, conducted last month in New Orleans during Computer
Associates International’s CA-World held there, contains responses
from 5,000 of the estimated 25,000 international conference
attendees. The preliminary results are taken from 2,000 of this
sample. Computer Associates is a charter member of the
Council.”

“We found definitely more of a movement beyond Web-server
boundaries,” said Ken Farber, director of the Merit Alliance
Council, which is conducting the Merit project. “We typically
equate the Linux server to the Web and we see that expanding … in
the survey.” He said the bottom line is that companies are becoming
more comfortable deploying Linux.”
