“The book is laid out extremely well. It is east to follow
and one topic seems to naturally lead to another. As the title
says, this is a ‘visual book’. That means lots of pictures to
describe things and not a lot of words. In this case it works well.
The descriptions and directions are very easy to follow and anyone,
including someone new to Linux should be able to go from
installation to intranet server in one day.”

“The first four chapters are really an introduction to Linux, if
you are an experienced Linux user you can skip them. The beginning
of the book leads you through what Linux is and why you should use
it as an intranet server. Then a complete walkthrough of installing
Linux (Red Hat) is given and basic operation of a Linux machine.
Topics covered include basic disk usage (copying and removing
files, directories, etc), user administration, file permissions,
CD-ROM setup and a few other basic topics….”

“Security is not covered very well. Of course, it is just an
intranet sever and does not need security right? Wrong, intranets
can be hacked from the inside also. Just because the network is not
plugged into the outside world does not mean security is not
needed. A chapter or two on basic security measures and tools
should have been included.”
