Ubuntu: Muslim Edition (Sabily) Review

“When you boot up you will hear somebody speaking in
Arabic. I am not sure what exactly it is he’s saying but it’s
obviously some religious chant or other. It adds to the overall
atmosphere provided in this distribution. The developers have
clearly taken great care to really customize Ubuntu rather than
slapping a few things in there or there and then calling it
Islamic.

“The screensaver is also quite nice in this version. Sabily
comes with some gorgeous pictures in the default screensaver that
scroll from one to the next and that feature various sayings from
the Quran. I rather liked the Arabic writing that is displayed in
the screensaver as it adds a bit of flavor to this distribution.
You’ll also see it when you move the cursor around sometimes over
stuff on the desktop. It’s another indicator of how seriously the
developers took the job of making what seems to me to be a very
authentic Islamic version of Ubuntu.”
