UPDATED: Linux Community Leaders Safe in Caracas

Many people know Cesar Villanueva and Ricardo Strusberg. Only a
few weeks ago they helped put together the largest Linux event in
history. Linux Week in Caracas drew 22,000 people.

Cesar has translated many articles from Linux Today and made
them available to Spanish speaking people in South America.

Having been out of touch with them since the floods, I finally
received a reply from Ricardo via email.

From Ricardo Strusberg:

Tom,

My family, Cesar’s Family, Cesar & Me are safe. In fact,
we are working in a project to install Internet/Intranet servers to
our government to handle data for this disaster.

Thanks for your prayers,

Ricardo

We received a second e-mail this time from Cesar.

Both Ricardo and I are well. The flood struck on
the seashore near to Caracas and selected parts of Caracas. Luckily
we live in areas that were not affected by disaster.

We are working with a government department helping them to
manage the information of disaster. This is a very intensive job
because of the emergency.

The situation in the affected areas is bad but in the city
(Caracas) there are no major problems (i.e. we have a normal supply
of foods, the businesses are working normal, etc) but the Christmas
season is certainly obscured by this tragedy.
