“True to its Beehive State roots, embedded Linux developer Lineo
continues to set a busy pace in preparation for its upcoming
IPO.”
“On Tuesday the Linden, Utah-based company announced a new
“collaboration” with Hitachi Semiconductor Inc., a U.S.-based
subsidiary of the Japanese manufacturing giant Hitachi (HIT).
According to both companies, Hitachi will install Embedix, Lineo’s
version of the Linux kernel, on Hitachi SuperH RISC
processors.”
“The companies say the collaboration will help lower the cost
and speed the development of wireless devices in both the handheld
and automobile markets, two areas Hitachi has been targeting for
the last year.”
“We think Linux is reducing time to market and offering more
options for our OEM customers,” says Prad Sang, the Hitachi
Semiconductor marketing manager who initiated the partnership
between the two companies.”
