Vindication of Oracle’s plans to de-commoditize the OS

Paul Vallee writes:

Whether it’ll be Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris or MacOS X is
still a mystery, but Oracle has announced plans to de-commoditize
the OS by shipping a “database appliance” code-named Raw Iron with
Oracle pre-installed.

This is directly in-line with my Oracle 8i
editorial
from last week when I predicted as much, except that
I anticipated a stronger commitment to Linux.

Some notable Larry Ellison quotes that prove OS
de-commoditization is the agenda:

“If it’s only Oraclel8i, they don’t need much of an
operating system”

“If you’re only running Oracle, you don’t care what’s
underneath.”
