“Compaq Canada Inc. announced Thursday that it has partnered
with The University of Western Ontario to establish the (CDN)
$1.6-million Compaq-Western Centre for Computational Research.”
“As part of the agreement, Compaq and Western have co-invested
(CDN) $1.6 million towards the installation of high-performance
Compaq Alpha technology-based server and workstation systems at the
University. Compaq will be a partner with the University over the
next five years.”
“The Compaq-Western Centre for Computational Research
harnesses the power of 70 Compaq Alpha processors installed in
Compaq AlphaServer ES40 and Compaq AlphaStation systems running
in a pure Linux operating system and Beowulf cluster
environment. The research centre, an arm of the University’s
Faculty of Science, offers the largest academic installation of
Compaq Alpha processors in Canada for research and development
purposes.”
