“On a typical day on the busy LinuxChix mailing lists,
discussions range from pizza, to health care, to tracking down and
fixing a troublesome cron job that’s spamming the root email
account with errors.”
“It’s a strange mix, but a deliberate one conjured up by Deb
Richardson, technical writer, webmaster, and LinuxChix founder. “I
created LinuxChix because I wanted a place where I could feel
comfortable discussing Linux and open source-related issues and
questions,” says Richardson. “I figured that I probably wasn’t the
only one and, happily, I was right….”
“Despite the riot grrl-style name and voluptuous cartoon
logo, the LinuxChix mailing lists make an effort to be open to all
genders, as long as the original purpose of the list is
respected. The lists, especially the technical one, show a
healthy population of men who participate harmoniously in the
discussions. Darren Osadchuk, a compliance analyst, finds LinuxChix
helpful “both when I’ve had specific questions and as a source of
general information.”
