WinInfo: PC Week, PC Magazine corroborate Mindcraft NT/Linux study

“The controversial Mindcraft study–which showed Microsoft
Windows NT 4.0 outperforming UNIX clone Linux by a wide margin–has
been corroborated by PC Week and PC Magazine, which published the
results of their own tests this week [5/10].”

“PC Week, which can hardly be called anti-Linux or
pro-Microsoft, tested Linux 2.2, Windows NT 4.0, Solaris x86, and
Netware 5.0 in its own performance benchmarks. The overall winner
was Windows NT, which blew away the competition in the NetBench
test (file serving) and came in second to Solaris in the WebBench
(Web serving) test. Linux, meanwhile, came in last in both
tests.”

“Meanwhile, PC Magazine look a look at Web serving with the new
WebBench 3.0 test; it is a Ziff-Davis publication like PC Week and
therefore uses the same benchmarks for testing. Their comparisons
with Linux are even more detailed, as they provide a look at
various Web servers running on NT as well as various distributions
of Linux.”
