Wired: Free Geeks Want Good Gnus [.gnu top-level domain]

“Free-software geeks want their own top-level domain. The
Free Software Foundation has asked the Internet’s governing body to
approve the addition of .gnu domains dedicated to open-source
projects and programming.”

“The Foundation’s request is one of over a dozen proposals
submitted to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and
Numbers prior to the meeting this week, at which the group’s board
members are expected to consider procedures for adding new
top-level domains.”

“Esther Dyson, ICANN chairwoman, said the requests are premature
since ICANN is debating the procedures to use to add new domain
names, not which ones will be added.”
