“Dell Computer is preparing to add Linux to its popular
Dimension desktop PCs, which will put the world’s largest PC
hardware vendor in the position of offering Linux as a checkoff
option alongside Microsoft’s Windows 95, 98 and NT.”

“The popular Dimension desktops, which are currently priced from
less than $900 to $2,200, will be available with Linux by October,
said Tad Druart, a spokesman for Dell. Dell also will offer Linux
as an option on its Inspiron notebook line. The Inspiron line will
be available with Linux by the end of the year, Druart said.”

“”It will add credibility to the Linux story to have Dell
offering it on its Dimension line. This might broaden the market
for Linux desktops,” said Dan Kusnetzky, an operating system (OS)
analyst at International Data Corp.”
