ZDNet: IBM Takes Another Step Into Linux

“The move represents yet another commitment by IBM to Linux,
which increasingly appears to be the company’s No. 1 strategy for
combating Microsoft in the departmental server arena. It also has
raised the profile of the open-source OS among resellers and their
customers, which have hesitated when it comes to Linux-based
solutions because until now there has not been any big-vendor
backing.

WebSphere is IBM’s object-based application server for deploying
and managing CORBA and Enterprise JavaBean applications. The
company has rolled it out on NT, Solaris, AIX, OS/400 and OS/390 so
far. Linux is the next platform. “
