“Intel enters the consumer electronics market with the debut of
an iMac-like desktop called Dot.Station. At the same time Intel has
opted to go with Red Hat Linux operating system instead of
Windows.”
“Dot.Station, shown at PC Expo in New York City this week, lets
people surf the Web, exchange emails and make phone calls with a
handset on the top of the unit. The device will cost about $500
(£329) to manufacture, and will not be sold directly to
consumers but through a variety or retailers and business that will
make it part of a service agreement, such as banks and Internet
service providers.”
“The unit will come with a 14-inch screen, a hard drive so
consumers can run applications or store data and will use the
Mozilla Web browser. An Intel Celeron processor and the Red Hat
operating system form the key to the terminals
operations.“
