Masami Ogoshi, chairman of the Japan Linux Association, was
interviewed by a staff member of Nikkei Computer.

“Now that Linux has become widely used in the business world, I
will focus on business models of Linux in cooperation with computer
makers, after having done what I could as a user,” said Masami
Ogoshi, chairman of the Japan Linux Association.

“In order to achieve further growth of Linux, we must be able to
design business models that can generate profits for computer
makers…. Our promotion efforts in the Japan Linux Users Group
were grass-roots types of activities, which were like the
operations of guerrillas. But no matter how many users the
guerrillas may get, the guerrillas cannot form a government.

“Thus, we could not encourage computer makers to move in a
certain direction. Therefore, we must set up a system in which we
can cooperate with computer makers. In order to further popularize
Linux, we need to rise above our limited capacity as users and make
future plans together with makers.”
